Most of us from time to time experience occasional short periods of sleeplessness during times of transient stress or changing circumstances or environment. After a short period of time though, normal sleep patterns tend to be restored naturally as we either solve problems or adapt to new situations.

Loss of sleep can and does have a negative effect on a person’s life and ability to function properly. The causes of an inability to get a good night’s sleep can be many and varied ranging from depression to stress. Unfortunately, the longer this condition is left untreated, the more embedded these negative patterns become. Whilst medication can often help to get some much needed sleep, sustained use can have unpleasant side-effects and does not address the underlying causes.
